Frequently Asked Questions
General & Process
Question: How does an inquiry with you work?
Answer: You send us an inquiry via the form or WhatsApp. We check availability, import options, and costs, then provide you with a transparent offer. After your confirmation, we handle the entire process – from Japan to its arrival in Germany.
Question: Do you only import on request, or do you also have vehicles in Germany?
Answer: Both. We have vehicles in stock in Germany and also offer individual custom imports from Japan.
Question: Can I reserve a vehicle?
Answer: Yes. Vehicles can be reserved for a defined period. We clarify the exact conditions depending on the vehicle and its status (in stock in Germany or imported from Japan).
Costs, Customs & Taxes
Question: What makes up the total price of an import?
Answer: The total price typically consists of the vehicle price in Japan, fees (auction/dealer/handling), domestic transport, shipping, port and handling costs in Germany, customs duties, import VAT, and, if applicable, modifications, a §21 inspection, and registration. You will receive a transparent breakdown in advance.
Question: How high are customs duties and import VAT?
Answer: Usually, 10% customs duty and 19% import VAT apply (depending on vehicle type/classification). Different regulations may apply to classic cars (30+ years old) – we will check this individually.
Question: Are there any hidden costs?
Answer: No. We disclose all costs. Possible additional items include, for example, conversion (lights/speedometer), a §21 inspection, or demurrage charges at the port in case of delays.
Shipping & Logistics
Question: How is the vehicle shipped?
Answer: Mostly by RoRo (Roll-on/Roll-off). Alternatively, container shipping is possible, for example, for rare or particularly valuable vehicles.
Question: RoRo or container – which is better?
Answer: RoRo is often cheaper and faster. Container offers additional protection but is usually more expensive. We recommend based on the vehicle and destination.
Question: How long does an import take?
Answer: Depending on the time of purchase, vessel, route, and processing, an import usually takes several weeks. We will keep you updated every step of the way.
TÜV, §21 & Registration
Question: Does a Japanese import require an individual inspection (§21)?
Answer: In many cases, yes – especially if there is no EU type approval/no COC available. This depends on the model.
Question: What modifications are typically necessary?
Answer: Often, adjustments to headlights/light pattern, rear fog lamp, and possibly the speedometer (km/h) are necessary. Details vary per vehicle.
Question: Are right-hand drive vehicles registrable in Germany?
Answer: Yes. Right-hand drive vehicles are generally registrable. A conversion to left-hand drive is usually not required.
How much is shipping?
Shipping is calculated based on your location and the items in your order. You will always see the shipping price before completing your purchase.
